Publication Day for "Streetcar to Justice" Is Today!
January 2, 2018
New Year, New Book! The Christmas decorations are still all over the house but they'll have to wait. Today is the official publication day for "Streetcar to Justice: How Elizabeth Jennings Won the right to Ride in New York." I am so delighted to see this book launched into the world. It's the all-but-forgotten story of Elizabeth Jennings, a black schoolteacher who refused to leave a segregated streetcar in Manhattan in 1854, setting into motion a historic court case and the first major step in ending segregation in public transportation in New York. I've written it for middle-grade to adult readers and it's loaded with sidebars, timelines, and archival news clippings, photos and even paintings. You can read more about it on my website at www.amyhillhearth.comHappy New Year to all!
Best,
from Amy
