Lectures and Workshops

I am a guest lecturer, primarily on women's history. Among the places I have lectured are Kansas University; the College of New Rochelle; Rutgers University; and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. My most popular topic is "Listening to Their Wisdom, Following in Their Footsteps," a talk on the extraordinary women I have known.

In the summer of 2007, I created and taught an intensive, seven-week writing workshop, "The Wisdom Project: Strengthening the Connection Between Youth and Elders through Oral History." My students were tribal members of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians. The program was partially funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

In January 2012, I was an inaugural faculty member of the newly-launched Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at the University of Tampa. My lecture topic was, "The Literature of Fact: Telling Life Stories That Stand the Test of Time."
